Since our founding in 1945, Sawtooth School for Visual Art has been a creative hub for Winston-Salem and the Piedmont Triad region. We have served generations of artists – from skilled professionals, to novices of all ages.

By choosing a recurring ‘Give Every Month’ (GEM) donation plan, you provide Sawtooth School with the stability to plan ahead for projects large and small. From maintaining our studios to upgrading technology – a little goes a long way! Please consider the gift amount that is right for you.

IN-KIND DONATIONS

If you would like to donate artwork, tools or arts and crafts material to Sawtooth, please make an appointment with the department director of that discipline to discuss how best to transfer your gift.

If you are unsure of whom contact, the front desk staff or development office can help you. In-kind donations may be tax-deductible.

JOANNE VERNON SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Former Sawtooth Executive Director JoAnne Vernon wanted to ensure that lack of financial resources would not be an obstacle to accessing Sawtooth’s visual art programs. You can help provide financial aid for children and adults to participate in Sawtooth classes and workshops. Please consider a gift to support this fund.

Warren Moyer Youth Scholarship Fund

Warren Moyer grew the Sawtooth ceramics program from only forty students a year to over 250 per semester during his 30-year tenure as Ceramics Director. Though he is retiring, his passion for the arts and invaluable knowledge of ceramics is our shared legacy, and his mark will forever be etched on Sawtooth’s history.

In honor of Warren and his commitment to underserved youth in the community, we are dedicating the new Warren Moyer Youth Scholarship Fund to ensure that all children are able to develop their love of the arts. Please consider honoring Warren in support of this shared mission. Leave a comment after your donation and tell us how Warren and the ceramics program has impacted your life. We will compile these stories to share with Warren.

The Forsyth Gem and Mineral Club (Paul Burton and Dick Hartz) Lapidary Arts Scholarship

Established and funded by the Forsyth Gem and Mineral Club, this scholarship supports students wishing to attend courses in lapidary arts at Sawtooth. Candidates for this scholarship are those that display an intent in using the knowledge obtained in class, persons that have a background or past experience in gems, minerals or jewelry, and anyone demonstrating a financial need. In addition, scholarship winners will receive a concurrent one-year membership in the Forsyth Gem and Mineral Club. Interested students should apply using the Sawtooth scholarship form online.

BEALLE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Bealle Family Scholarship Fund for Seniors was established by Beth Bealle in honor of her parents, LoAnne and Burnitt Bealle. This fund provides scholarships for students aged 60 and older.

PRESERVE ARTS EDUCATION

To ensure that we can continue to be the incubator for emerging artists for decades to come–we hope you will consider making a bequest to Sawtooth School.

If you would like to donate an amount that will generate your annual gift in perpetuity, a rule of thumb is to multiply your annual gift by 25. For example, if your annual gift is $100, a bequest of $2,500 will yield approximately $100 annually, assuming the currently projected standard of a 4% payout.
