Intro to Base Metal Clay (Bronze and Copper)
If you’ve explored silver metal clay (or even if you haven’t!) you might be curious about working with base metal clays… copper, bronze and their variations! This class explores the basics of working with copper and bronze metal clays. Base metal clays handle differently and have more complicated firing requirements than fine silver clay, but conquering these few hurdles will result in beautiful pieces in the warm tones of base metals. Learn about conditioning, shaping, attaching, refining, and firing base metal clay pieces. In this 6-week class we’ll use Five-Star Metal Clay in copper and bronze, but we’ll also discuss the similarities and differences with some of the other brands. Materials fee of $75 is payable at registration and includes most materials (including copper and bronze clays and CZs) and use of tools. Some metal clay experience is helpful but enthusiastic beginners are welcome.
Note: no class on July 31 and August 7.
