Chasing & Repousse' - Turning Over a New Leaf - Guest Artist Workshop with Kimberly Renee'
Enjoy this hands-on introduction to techniques used within chasing and repousse’. Use hammer and chasing tools to learn classical chasing techniques to outline various leaf designs, raise metal from the back of the piece with punches to add depth and dimension, and then learn to chase the front of the design to add details and a dramatic effect. By the end of the workshop, you will have four samples of work that may be incorporated into a jewelry piece or non-jewelry item such as part of a box lid, belt buckle, ornament, book mark, etc.
The first three days of the workshop will walk students through all the processes necessary to create work using chasing and repousse' techniques. The final fourth day is an "Artist Confab Day with Kimberly Renee'". It is an extension of the workshop to allow students time to apply the content learned to their own aesthetic style. Use this day to create or start a new piece of work under the guidance of the instructor. Included in this day is group discussion on drawing for the chasing & repousse' artist, ideas on how to start a series of work and resources for inspiration.
Workshop will take a one-hour lunch break each day.
A $65 supply fee, payable at registration, includes a kit created exclusively for this workshop by Allcraft Jewelry Supply. The kit includes a 4" pitch bowl w/ rubber ring stand, pitch to fill it, a chasing hammer, and copper squares for workshop projects. The kit is yours to keep.
Chasing tools are provided by the instructor for use during the workshop.
Student Prerequisites:
- Torch experience helpful, but not required
- No prior chasing or repousse’ experience is necessary
