WELCOME TO METALS + LAPIDARY

We offer classes and workshops in metal forming, jewelry fabrication, lost wax casting, stone-setting, enameling, metal clay and lapidary arts. As well as focusing on the skills required to work with metals, stone, and enamels, we emphasize the creative process of combining these materials to create a unique work of art. The studio hosts Open Studio time for the advanced and independent metalsmith, as well as Visiting Artist workshops designed to inspire mid-career professionals.

For more information about the Metals studio, including open studio and private instruction, please contact department director Sara Sloan Stine at sarastine@sawtooth.org or 336.723.7395 x1204. You can also sign up for our metals email list to learn about upcoming news and programs.

EQUIPMENT:

In the Metals + Lapidary Studio, you will find the same quality and range of equipment that you would find in a professional jeweler’s studio: roll mills, a hydraulic press, belt-sanders and buffing machines, acetylene and oxy-acetylene soldering torches, tumblers, kilns, and jeweler’s benches for all students. Lapidary equipment includes CabKing cabbing machines and RayTech faceting machines which are housed next door in the Glass Studio.
