Youth Summer Internships
For almost 75 years, Sawtooth School has been the premier community arts school in the Piedmont Triad, providing art instruction for all ages and skill levels. Sawtooth offers a broad range of classes and workshops across a variety of art forms and disciplines. The school is located in the heart of downtown Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
High School Interns work with experienced art educators in summer camp studios to assist Sawtooth’s youngest artists, ages 3 to 11, as they explore creativity in new and dynamic ways.
This position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently and collaboratively on important projects, and most importantly, a strong interest in art education or community nonprofits. This is a 4 – 6 week commitment between June 17th and August 9th. Half-day or full-day shifts are available, and interns typically work 25 -40 hours per week.

College Interns work with our summer programming for youth ages 3-18. Interns will learn about arts education, program administration, and nonprofit marketing. Sawtooth is looking for interns who are creative, kind, respectful, organized, and hardworking.
- Social Media Intern – Intern will photograph students during our studio classes, edit and organize those photos, and manage our social media postings.
- Administrative Intern– Intern will manage our weekly art contest and assist with program administration. Intern will assist teachers, organize supplies, help with studio set up and management, and be a direct assistant to the director for daily administrative duties.
The college intern positions are part-time, 20 hours per week. College interns start on June 17th with a training the week before.

All summer internships are unpaid, yet we pride ourselves on making the internship experience and opportunity one of value in an environment that cultivates personal growth and leadership opportunities. We strive to provide excellent networking to the arts and the education communities in North Carolina and beyond. The seminars and opportunities we provide our interns allow them to take on leadership roles, learn in an art education environment, and gain work experience along with receiving community service hours. As an added benefit, all interns receive a free one-year Sawtooth student membership encouraging them to take art classes or workshops at a discounted rate.
