Join us on Thursday, October 20 for two unique printmaking learning opportunities with visiting artists and Speedball Art representatives: Carlos Hernandez, Bill Fick, and Susan Rostow.
Carlos and Bill Present the Outlaw Printmaking Mashup
Experience the fireworks of an outlaw printmaking mashup! This workshop will introduce participants to screenprinting and linocut relief printing techniques during a full day session. Start by learning the electrifying magic of screenprinting with Carlos Hernandez co-director of Houston Texas Burning Bones Press and then transition to eye popping graphic linoleum block carving taught by Bill Fick, co-director of the Durham NC printshop Supergraphic. Once these techniques have been mastered we’ll be mashing them together to yield hyperdynamic mixed media prints. This will be a unique opportunity to express your inner outlaw creativity just in time for Halloween and the Day of the Dead. Open to all skill levels.
Susan Rostow (printmaker and inventor of AKUA Inks) Presents Viscosity Monotype Workshop
Discover how to achieve prints with great visual depth by producing transparent and opaque layers of color on a single monotype plate. Viscosity Monotype involves using different ink consistencies rolled and painted one on top of each other. A stiff ink (high viscosity) and loose ink (low viscosity) will repel one another. This playful method offers luminous color interactions in unpredictable ways. While exploring these elements of surprise you will learn how to mix inks and add modifiers to help calculate your results to make this process work for your particular style. All materials used in this workshop are fume free and clean up with soap and water.
