9061. Intro to Graphic Design

This fun and challenging class is especially designed for students who want to learn the basics of Photoshop and Illustrator to create graphic design imagery. It covers everything from basic photo manipulation to how to create graphic designs and advertising. Limited to 6 students.

9060. Intro to Photography
6th-10th Grade

This fun and challenging class is especially designed for students who want to turn snapshots into great photos. It covers everything from loading the camera to proper exposure, depth of field, composition and selection of lenses and film. Students will learn the basics of photography and how to use artistic flair to create unique images. Students will need a 35mm or digital camera.

Make your drawings come to life Ð learn how to animate! Students will become acquainted with the basics of animation, and get lots of hands-on practice as they explore a variety of animation techniques. At the conclusion of the course, each student will get a video copy of the animation they create. This class is suitable for new and continuing animation students. Space is limited so sign up early!

410T. Figure Drawing for Fashion Design
6th-10th Grade

This is the first in a series for those interested in fashion. Class time will be spent drawing the human figure; live and from mannequins and photographs. We will work in charcoal, graphite, ink, marker and watercolor.

4610T Create Your Own: Artist's Trading Cards
6th - 10th Grade
Instructor Karen Parker
Make them and trade them! These tiny works of art are standard baseball trading card size, and are swapped by artists online or in world-wide trading sessions. ATCs have just one simple rule: they must measure 2-1/2 x 3 1/2 inches, and be flat enough to slide into a standard trading card sleeve. Media, materials and techniques are totally up to the individual artist. This class explores different media and methods to make a series of ATC. Some materials provided. Supply list online.

555-T. Stained Glass Mosaics for Teens

This is a special introduction to the world of beautiful stained glass mosaics just for teens. Through demonstration and hands-on practice, youÕll learn various mosaic techniques to create projects you can keep and use or give as gifts. Fee includes basic supplies.

Students are introduced to basic aspects of fashion design. You will go through the full design process including researching trends, compiling mood boards, developing color stories, and the creation of innovative designs. At the end of the week you will have an entire presentation of your creative ideas with the finishied board of your fashion collection. This can be used as the start of your fashion portfolio. It will be professional, fun and creative.

319T. Learn to Sew From A Pattern - For Teens
Instructor Denni McCann
Do you have leanings toward a future in Fashion Design, but don't know how to put a garment together? This class is for you. You will be cutting and sewing a garment from a commercial pattern. You will have step-by-step instruction on the terms used in construction, how to measure and fit a garment and how to tweak a style so it is more "you". Bring a pattern of your choice to the first class (a summer dress, or tunic that requires a woven [not knit] fabric). After the first class you will need to purchase fabric and supplies and bring to the second class. Bring in your sewing machine, but no previous sewing experience is required... just a desire to sew.

For Rising 8th - 12th Graders
The Summer Art Honors (SAH) program at the Sawtooth School for Visual Art is the finest visual arts experience in the state for artistically-gifted middle and high school students. We are pleased to offer this opportunity to the Triad area and are confident that you will want your child to take advantage of this creative endeavor with the talented teaching staff involved in the program.
Session I: 6/23 - 7/3 Morning session: $250 Full day session: $350
Session II: 7/7 - 7/18 Morning session: $275 Full day session: $375
Sessions I & II: 6/23 - 7/18 Morning session: $425 (skip 7/4) Full day session: $625
Course Advancement: Sessions I, II & Art Appreciation, Full day session with art appreciation: $675
Applications:
Summer Art Honors (SAH) applications will be available from Sawtooth School for Visual Art on March 17th. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis so be sure to get your application in early. Students may participate in Session I (6/23 - 7/3), Session II (7/7 - 7/18) or both sessions (6/23 - 7/18). A student can sign up for either the morning session (8:00 am - 12:15 pm) or the full day session (8:00 am - 3:15 pm). For course advancement, students must register for both sessions with art appreciation (8:00 am - 5:15 pm).
There are limited scholarships available so make sure to apply by May 15th. Scholarship applications can be picked up at the Sawtooth after March 17th.
