Instructor Du Jour
Add a taste of art to your life. Bring your favorite bottle of wine to this low-key class. It’s a great opportunity for anyone wanting to enjoy the thrill of creativity and the company of good friends. Follow the stroke-by-stroke instructions or tap into your wild, avant-garde side. It is completely up to you. Have a good time and some good wine. Make some new friends as you paint and at the end of the night you take home your masterpiece. All supplies included. No experience necessary. Class space limited to 20 people per night.

2309. Fun Clay Bird Feeders - Make Two, Share One
Instructor Juanita Disher and Jill Bolick
Create a festive bird feeder for your favorite neighborhood feathered friends. After constructing the main clay structure, have lots of fun embellishing it into an original bird feeder that every bird would want to feed from. Finished bird feeder available in time for spring feeding. Make a bird feeder for yourself and one to be donated to Birdfest, a fund-raiser for Habitat for Humanity. No previous experience required. Great project for parent/child or big brother/big sister.

Have a fun experience raku firing while learning new techniques. The first meeting will focus on terra sigilatto and how to apply it to your greenware pots to achieve rich satiny blacks in raku. Bring two pieces to apply terra sigilatto. The second meeting will focus on the actual raku firing using the bisqued pieces you have applied terra sigilatto to. Techniques covered will include spraying glazes, using underglazes for additional color, masking patterns, etc. .

Come learn how to create an easy and relatively inexpensive photo set that allows you to make professional looking photos of your work. Students will learn how to construct a photo set complete with lighting to make photographing artwork a breeze. Learn simple lighting techniques to make your photos professional and creative. Class not limited to pottery students. Photo techniques learned can apply to other small art forms. Class limited to 15 so register early. Each student should bring 1-2 pieces to be photographed as examples during class.

Learn the ancient Japanese art of folding and dying fabric to create wonderful vibrant patterns on silk. You will learn from the Asheville artist and creator of Jennythreads. During this six hour workshop you will be creating texture and color by folding and stitching silk and applying permanent, heated fabric dyes. At the end of the session, you will have several unique silk scarves to wear or give as gifts. A $20 supply fee is included in cost.

Rug weaving and more! In this class you will create a one-ofÐa-kind textile of your choice, for example, a rug, wall hanging, table runner, etc. You can choose from a variety of raw materials to weave into your creation, i.e. interesting cloth strips or a variety of yarns. You are free to use our supplies, or provide your own. No experience in weaving on a floor loom required. This will be a fun creative one week workshop. Bring in a bag lunch.

3320. How to Draft Twill Patterns Ð A Weaving Workshop

In this one-day workshop, you will draft several twill patterns for 4 to 12 harnesses, dress the loom with a short warp, and weave a towel using the twill patterns you create. All supplies are provided. Some harness loom weaving experience is required; you should know how to put a warp on the loom.

Come learn the ancient textile technique of felting. In this half-day workshop, you will learn how to felt wool fleece into a versatile seamless purse that you can use or give as a gift. 3115. The Art of Needle Felting

In this class you will create colorful shapes of your own design utilizing the ancient technique of needle felting. Barbed felting needles are used to make wool fibers adhere together without using water. A variety of colorful wool yarns, will be available for use in your designs. You will be able to create your finished shapes as decorative pins, 3 dimensional Easter eggs and more. A $15 supply fee is included in cost.

Have you been saving some special piece of clothing from GrandmotherÕs attic trunk? Have you been collecting pieces of antique lace and fabric? Come to this class and make a NEW piece of wearable art. Bring your treasures, scissors and a sketch pad. Friday evening is a project planning session. Using dress forms and skilled sketching, we will help you plan your vintage remake. On Saturday we will guide you through the reconstruction process. Handsewing experience a plus, but not required. We will get you well-started; finishing may take more time than class allows. A $20 materials fee is included.

Jewelry with three-dimensional form is much more elegant and professional-looking than flat pieces, and the techniques to create dimension from flat sheet can be quick and easy. Let Betty show you her approach to making simple sheet metal come alive with form! Hammers and wooden stakes you create are all that are needed to add a new dimension to your jewelry work. Some experience with metal/jewelry is helpful, but beginners are welcome. This is a much-condensed version of her very popular 5-day shell-forming workshop that Betty has taught across the country. Have you always wanted to learn to make jewelry but never had the time? If that is the case, this condensed two day exploration of beginning jewelry basics may be your ideal solution. If you have never used a jewelers' saw or metal file, try this introductory workshop, especially for beginners. Explore a variety of jewelry making and metalsmithing techniques such as; sawing, filing, piercing, sanding, bending and polishing. All the necessary tools will be provided. 5201. Welding for the Artist

Learn how to weld using the oxy-acetylene torch. Take scrap metal, copper, brass and steel, and turn them into sculpture, jewelry and found object art. This one-day workshop will teach you how to operate the oxy-acetylene torch, and use it safely to create metal work that can be used as functional or decorative art. 5203. MIG Welding for the Artist

Try your hand at welding with a 110-volt MIG welder.
For students with or without any experience in welding, come see what MIG welding can offer. MIG welding can be a quicker and cleaner process than traditional stick welding or oxy-acetylene welding. It can also be used on a wide variety of metals and alloys. You will also be able to use a plasma cutter, which offers the possibility of intricate cuts. There will be demonstration and hands-on practice. Bring long-sleeve shirt, wear cotton/denim pants, closed-toe shoes or boots, heavy leather gloves, bring lunch, welding helmets provided, or bring one, metal to practice with provided, bring some if you have it.

532. Introduction to Lampworking – The Art of Making Glass Beads

Learn the art of glass beadmaking. Basic beadmaking techniques, the tools and methods used, and safety will be covered. Discuss setting up a safe workspace, eye protection and proper ventilation for flame work, different gas options, torches, methods for cooling/ annealing the beads, and basic tools used. Create beautiful beads using molten glass, stringers, mandrels and a torch. Learn the importance of slow, even rotation of the mandrel, positioning of your hands, working in the flame, shaping the bead and adding extra glass. No experience necessary. All materials provided. Class limited to 8 students.

This is the perfect workshop for those who want dabble in art-making, while feeding your sense of whimsy.
