Fiber Demo - Photo
  The Fiber Program offers a variety of courses using both traditional and contemporary techniques.  Weaving, spinning, dyeing, basketry and special skills workshops are presented for various levels so that beginners can acquire a new skill and advanced students discover a challenge. 322. Beginning & Intermediate Weaving
Instructor Pat Mauck
Beginning students will learn how to use the four-shaft floor loom by weaving a sampler, then planning and weaving a textile of their own design. Intermediate students will investigate structure and weave variations as they continue to work on weaving techniques. Bring scissors and tape measure to first class.

3223. Rags to Riches

Instructor Pat Mauck
Rug weaving and more! In this class you will create a one-of-a-kind textile of your choice, for example, a rug, wall hanging, table runner, etc. You can choose from a variety of raw materials to weave into your creation, i.e., interesting cloth strips or a variety of yarns. You are free to use our supplies or provide your own. No experience in weaving on a floor loom required. This will be a fun, creative one-week workshop. Bring in a bag lunch.

324. Rug Hooking

Fast and easy, Punch Needle Rug Hooking has been described as "instant gratification with wool". Explore all the basics of punch needle craft as you make a chair pad (approximately 14" in diameter), wall hanging or decorative pillow. You will choose from a variety of kit designs ranging from traditional to primitive. The skills you learn can be translated into making larger rugs. No experience required, and the $45 kit fee is included in the cost of the class. Bring a bag lunch.

319T. Learn to Sew From A Pattern For Teens

Have you always wanted to know how to assemble a garment from scratch? This class is for you. You will be cutting and sewing a garment from a commercial pattern. You will have step-by-step instruction on the terms used in construction, how to measure and fit a garment and how to tweak a style so it is more "you". Bring a pattern of your choice to the first class (a summer dress, tunic, or accessory that requires a woven [not knit] fabric). After the first class, you will need to purchase fabric and supplies and bring to the second class. Bring in your sewing machine, but no previous sewing experience is required... just a desire to sew.

329. You Can Sew!

If you don't know how to sew, but would love to be able to make curtains for a widow, pillows for your couch, or just be able to shorten your pants, this is the class for you. You can come with an idea for a project, bring a pattern and fabric or we can brainstorm ideas in class. You will get plenty of individual attention, so you can complete your project during class time. Bring the materials you need to the first class: pins, scissors and that sewing machine with which you want a better relationship. We also have sewing machines available. You may be surprised to fine out that You Can Sew!

410T. Teen Figure Drawing for Fashion Design

Want to make your fashion ideas come to life? Learn to draw the human figure to showcase your designs. In this beginner class, you will learn how to draw a fashion figure using the elongated model proportions. You will learn to draw different poses, using pencils, and pen and ink. We will study how different fabrics drape on the body using mannequins, and photographs. You will get to experiment with using pens, watercolors and ink washes on your own "designs". Open to teens age 14-18. A supply list will be given to you at the first class.

3042. Watercolor Marbling

Learn the classic techniques of watercolor marbling using traditional tools, techniques and colors to create art that is suitable for framing or for personal stationery. You will create totally unique patterns and designs and, at the end of class, you will have several beautiful works of art to take home. We will also discuss ideas on the many ways to use your finished artwork. A $25 supply fee is included in the cost of the class. Bring a bag lunch.

3043. Suminagashi Paper Marbling

Suminagashi is the ancient Japanese technique of decorating paper with ink. It literally means "ink floating." Using classic techniques and tools, you will create art that is suitable for framing or for personal stationery. 3120. Old World Still Life Art Quilt

Instructor Roxane Lessa
Would you like to create your own still life art quilt? In this class, you will learn how to fuse your batiks, solids and hand-dyes to create a tiny masterpiece. In an easy, fun way you will then learn to apply a little fabric paint to depict brilliant color, shiny highlights, and dark shadows to gorgeous fabric fruits and vegetables. These small touches of paint will add depth and realism to your still life. Pattern, fabrics and all other supplies needed to complete your 12"x15" work of art in class will be supplied.
