Tuning a Hand Plane (5806)
A sharp, properly adjusted hand plane allows a woodworker to peel a whisper-thin shaving from wood while leaving a surface of unsurpassed quality. Tuning benefits any plane, old or new. In this workshop, you?ll examine how to tune a smoothing plane, sharpen its iron, as well as how to maintain one in good order. Please feel free to bring your own plane with you to tune; or maybe an antique plane (wood or metal) you picked up second-hand and would like to restore to working order. After tuning up your plane, some of the basic uses of a hand plane will be covered. Woodworking experience required. All materials for the class are provided.
