The Summer Art Honors (SAH) program at the Sawtooth School for Visual Art is the finest visual arts experience in North Carolina for artistically-gifted rising 8th -12th grade students who are nominated to attend this program by their art teacher.
Eligibility: Rising 8th graders through seniors who have been recommended by their art teacher.
Applications: Due May 21, 2010. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis so be sure to send your registration early to increase your chances to be registered in the class of your choice. The four-week program consists of two 2-week sessions. A student may sign up for
Session I (June 21 – July 2), Session II (July 5 - July 16), or for both sessions (June 21 - July 16) Students may choose to participate in either the morning program (8:00 am - 12:15 pm) or the full-day program (8:00 am - 3:00 pm). A student cannot attend the afternoon session without attending the morning session.
Art Advancement: The option to advance a level in art applies only to Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School students. To meet the school system’s requirements, it is mandatory that students who wish to advance one level in art a) be a rising freshman or higher, b) attend the full-day, four weeks, c) take the art appreciation course, d) pass a portfolio review, e) pass the art appreciation final exam. This program provides course advancement only; it does not provide course credit.
Behavior Expectations: Excellent behavior is expected. The Summer Art Honors program reserves the right to dismiss any student, without refund, for behavior that is disruptive or dangerous to the student learning environment. Summer Art Honors may refuse admission to students with a past history of unacceptable behavior.

Scholarships: There are limited scholarship funds available. Scholarship awards are made on the basis of financial need. Scholarship applications may be requested from the Sawtooth School office. Scholarship applications must be received by the Sawtooth School office no later than 5:00 pm, May 14, 2010. A letter of recommendation from a member of the arts community or a public school arts teacher must accompany the application. An interview with the scholarship review committee will be scheduled once the completed application is received. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
Brochures and applications will be in the hands of art teachers for nominations within the next two weeks.
