I Can’t Draw — Yes I Can
Instructor Nancy Bruce

Supply List

The following should be brought to the first class. You will spend
roughly $25.

18" X 24" rough newsprint pad
11" x 14" or bigger pad of better quality drawing paper - 70 lb. or
higher

Graphite drawing pencils come in varying hardnesses. HARD leads have a
number followed by the letter "H". The higher the number, the harder
the graphite. SOFT leads have a number followed by the letter "B".
Again, the higher the number, the SOFTER the graphite. You should have
a range of hardnesses. I suggest the following:

2H, HB (which is right in the middle of the range), 3B, and 6B or an
EBONY pencil

1 white plastic eraser (one brand is Magic Rub)
1 kneaded eraser (looks like a rectangle of gray putty)
1 small pencil sharpener (preferably with a reservoir for the shavings)
1 fixable, retractable blade knife for "whittling" pencils (Xacto
blade, mat knife, box cutter)
Charcoal: 3 sticks of vine, any softness and one stick of compressed
charcoal

(That ends the list of items needed for the first class.)

STRONGLY SUGGESTED (but not required):
Tackle box to hold supplies
Cardboard portfolio to hold your drawings and drawing pads
Masonite drawing board with attached clips or a plain panel and Bulldog
clips

OPTIONAL FOR LATER IN THE CLASS - Don't buy until we talk about them.
1 set of 12 colored pencils by PRISMACOLOR, plus one "Indigo"
Prismacolor - no other brand is acceptable
Pad of colored charcoal/pastel papers or sheets (Canson is a fair
brand, sold in 30"x40" sheet at approx. $2/sheet). I will guide you in
selection.
One good watercolor brush, size #10
One bottle of India ink, not bigger than 2 oz.
